In observance of Juneteenth (June 19, 2026), McColl Center is honored to host an intake session for AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY from 10 AM - 12 PM and 2 - 4 PM.

AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY, an archival organization and registry, is currently seeking objects commonly categorized as “Black Americana,” or racialized Americana, including but not limited to:

  • figurines

  • kitchenware

  • advertisements

  • novelty objects

  • collectibles

  • other racialized memorabilia.

The registry invites individuals in possession of such objects to contribute to this developing archival registry through this formal intake and documentation process. Participants who contribute objects will complete a deed-based transfer in exchange for a limited edition carbon-copy print functioning as both artwork and archival record.

Objects may be damaged, incomplete, worn, repaired, altered, or visibly aged. AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY is particularly interested in materials that have circulated through generations; contain evidence of use or display; carry regional or familial histories; have uncertain provenance; provoke discomfort, uncertainty, or contradiction.

For AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY, Juneteenth marks both liberation and delayed recognition. Rather than allowing such materials to remain privately exchanged, discarded, or detached from historical context, AMERICAN(A) PROPERTY seeks to place them into a growing archive intended for future presentation within museum, university, and educational spaces.

The June 19th intake session expands upon the first public registry held in April 2026, which generated significant public discussion surrounding preservation, disposal, historical accountability, and the ethics of collecting racially charged objects.
